  • In 1801 Middlesbrough was a hamlet with a population of just 25 people living in four farmhouses. It's population now is over 139,000!
  • Middlesbrough had the distinction of being the first major British town and industrial target to be bombed during the Second World War. The Luftwaffe first visited the town on 25 May 1940 when a lone bomber dropped 13 bombs between South Bank Road and the South Steel Plant.
  • The Rolling Stones, iconic and internationally famous rock-band, played their first gig outside of London on 13 July 1963 at The Outlook, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.
