Leicester is a thoroughly cosmopolitan city set in a very picturesque county. With a history dating back over 2000 years there is much to learn at the many museums dotted around the city. Despite it's strong historic roots Leicester is very much a forward looking city. It is home to some of the most impressive contemporary buildings in the region. A very diverse population benefits from the best in live music, independent cinema, innovative theatre and countless trendy restaurants and bars. It's also an excellent centre for shopping and attracts bargain hunters from all over the county. Leicester enjoys the best of old and new, and is very much a city on the up.

Did you know...

  • The body of Richard III was brought to Leicester after the Battle of Bosworth Field.
  • In 1841 Thomas Cook organised the world’s first package tour from Leicester - it went just up the road to Loughborough for a temperance meeting.
  • Radio Leicester was Britain’s first local radio station when it began to broadcast in 1967. The station hit the airwaves on Thursday November 8 that year, broadcasting for just four hours per day initially.
