Things to do in Hull

Kingston upon Hull is a busy industrial port city located on the banks of the Rivers Hull and Humber. Are you looking for things to do in Hull? We've got plenty of great ideas for you across the city.

Hull has picked up something of a bad name in recent times. However, don't be fooled, Hull, has undergone a significant and exciting transformation over the last five years. The city is now one of the key centres in the Yorkshire region. Located on the banks of the Rivers Hull and Humber, the city strikes a good balance between a rich heritage and a diverse and vibrant entertainment scene. Hull is home to eight free museums, an award winning aquarium, Hull Truck Theatre, two modern shopping centres, and countless places to eat and drink. Whatever you thought you knew about Hull, forget it!

Known for...   Queens Gardens, Humber Bridge, William Wilberforce, University of Hull, The River Hull tidal barrier, Prince's Quay Shopping Centre and The Deep Aquarium

Did you know...

  • William Wilberforce, the pioneering campaigner against slavery, was MP for Hull. His birthplace, Wilberforce House, is now a museum.
  • The pattie originated in Hull. It is a flat cake with a potato, sage and onion recipe, battered and deep-fried. It is popularly eaten with fish and chips, or with just chips, or in a bread cake known as a ’patty butty’.
  • John Godber, founder of Hull Truck Theatre, is the third most performed playwright in the UK after Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn. Among his classic hits are Bouncers, Up n’ Under and of course, Teechers!
