Things to do in Cheltenham

Beautiful Regency town and an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. Are you looking for things to do in Cheltenham? We've got plenty of great ideas for you across the town.

Regal buildings and architecture have given Cheltenham its enviable status as a premier spa town. Wide avenues such as the Promenade and pleasant green spaces such as Montpellier Gardens and Sandford Park. Known for its popular race course visitors can also enjoy the Pittville Pump room and a new museum dedicated to Holst, the composer best known for The Planets. The literature festival in October and music festival in July both attract an international audience. Interestingly city status has so far eluded the town but it must be a strong contender if the opportunity ever rose again. Cheltenham is a popular shopping destination and has successfully blended boutiques and independent shops with larger, well-known brands.

Known for...   Race Course, Spa, Regency buildings and Pittville Pump room

Did you know...

  • The Cheltenham Festival has only been cancelled once since the Second World War. In 2001, the decision was taken to cancel the whole event because of a massive outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
  • Britain's only Olympic ski-jumper, Eddie the Eagle was born in Cheltenham in 1963.
  • The central courtyard area of the GCHQ building is large enough to accommodate the Royal Albert Hall.
