Wiltshire market town granted Royal patronage in 2011 in recognition of its role in military funeral repatriations

Wootton Bassett became famous recently for its role in military funeral repatriations passing through from RAF Lyneham. It's location close to the M4 makes it an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area and tourist attractions.

Did you know...

  • Wootton Bassett was granted Royal patronage in 2011, in recognition of the its role in military funeral repatriations passing through the town from RAF Lyneham.
  • There are records of a settlement at the site, then known as Wodeton, in AD 681 in a Malmesbury Abbey charter granting land to the Abbot.
  • Wootton Bassett’s landmark building is the Town Hall, built at the end of the 17th Century, by the Hyde family (Earls of Clarendon).
